Block Blast takes the spatial reasoning of Tetris, rips away the time pressure of falling pieces, and hands you a deceptively simple grid. You're given three block shapes at a time and tasked with dropping them onto the board to form complete horizontal rows or vertical columns. It feels incredibly relaxing at first, almost therapeutic, as you slot those colorful geometric shapes into perfectly satisfying gaps.
Then the board gets crowded. Suddenly, you're sweating over where to put a massive L-shaped block when you only have scattered, single-square holes left. The game demands that you think three steps ahead, balancing the urge to clear single lines immediately against the massive point payouts of setting up multi-line combo clears. It's a brilliant loop of self-inflicted chaos and deeply satisfying resolution.

Editor's Note:I've lost track of how many times I told myself 'just one more round' before looking out the window and realizing the sun was coming up. That giant 3x3 square piece is my absolute nemesis.
Playing: Block Blast
How to play
Controls
Click and drag your mouse (or tap and drag on mobile) to select one of the three available block shapes at the bottom of the screen.
Release the mouse button or lift your finger to drop the block into the highlighted empty cells on the grid.
Core rules
Completely filling a horizontal row or vertical column will destroy those blocks and free up space on the board.
You must place all three given shapes before the game generates a new set of three pieces.
Goal
Keep placing blocks and clearing lines to accumulate the highest score possible before you run out of valid moves.
Tips & tricks
The 3x3 Threat Assessment
Always try to leave a 3x3 grid of empty space open somewhere on your board. The game loves to hand you the massive 3x3 square block right when you have a messy, checkerboard pattern, which instantly ends your run if you can't fit it.
Corner First Placement
When you get awkward, bulky pieces like the large L-shapes or crosses, tuck them into the corners or flush against the edges of the board immediately. Leaving them floating in the middle creates fragmented dead zones that are nearly impossible to fill efficiently.
Analyze the Batch
Before placing the first piece of a new batch of three, mentally map out where all three will go. Placing the easiest piece first might accidentally block the only valid spot for a harder piece in that same trio.
Hold the Line for Combos
Don't instantly clear a single line if doing so ruins a setup for a multi-line clear. Clearing three or four lines simultaneously with one piece placement triggers a Combo multiplier that skyrockets your score much faster than playing it too safe.
Why it’s fun
The crisp audio-visual crunch of wiping out four rows at exactly the same time.
That agonizing moment of suspense before the next three blocks generate, praying for a tiny 1x1 square to save your life.
FAQ
Does Block Blast have a time limit?
No, there is no ticking clock in the classic mode. You can stare at the board for an hour before making a move. The only pressure comes from the limited space on the grid.
Can I rotate the blocks in Block Blast?
In the standard version of Block Blast, pieces cannot be rotated. You have to place them exactly in the orientation they are given to you, which forms the core challenge of the puzzle.
How do I get a higher score?
Focus on combo clears. Clearing multiple lines at once, or clearing lines on consecutive turns, triggers score multipliers that are far more valuable than simply clearing one line at a time.
Why did the game end suddenly?
The game ends the exact moment you are handed a piece that cannot fit anywhere on your current board. Even if you have empty spaces, if the specific shape won't fit, it's game over.
Is there a strategy to get the 1x1 block?
Block generation is completely randomized. You cannot influence which blocks appear, which is why risk management—like never relying entirely on a 1x1 block to bail you out—is crucial.
